EuroSafe Report: Non-fatal injuries in the EU

Non-fatal injuries in the EU report

Published by EuroSafe, ‘Injuries in the European Union’ (now in its 8th edition) presents a summary of non-fatal injuries treated in hospital emergency departments. Based on data from the European Injury Database (EU-IDB) covering the years 2009-2018, the results demonstrate that despite some fluctuations over the years, the system delivers stable and valid indicators for the magnitude of the injury problem in the EU.

In the EU-27, an estimated 4.5 million patients get admitted to hospitals annually, and a further 31 million seek treatment in hospital Accident & Emergency departments. More than 55% of all injuries occur at home, at school or during leisure activities.
