  • For the European Commission to adopt and strengthen legislative measures to restrict access to firearms.

  • For the World Health Organization Regional Office for Europe and the European Commission to focus on the mental health of children and adolescents in all policy documents related to mental health for Europe.

  • For the World Health Organization Regional Office for Europe and the European Commission to support a European network to share information and resources on depression and suicide in children and youth.

  • For Member States to promote professional education for the recognition and treatment of depressed and suicidal individuals.

  • For the European Commission to support a European campaign to publicise the magnitude of the problems of depression and suicide and messages of strategies for prevention.

  • For the European Commission to support a Mental Health Database to assess the mental health status and needs of the population, specific groups and individuals in a manner that allows comparison nationally and throughout Europe.

  • For the European Commission and Member States to support research projects that further the understanding and treatment of depression and the prevention of suicide in children and youth, as well as programs for child suicide survivor treatment.

  • For Member States to support increased capacity and ability of general practitioners and primary care services, as well as networking with specialised medical and non-medical care in order to offer effective access, identification and treatments to people with mental health problems.
