This workshop will focus on the overall issue of child safety and the following 3 sections will be contained in this session.

  1. A brief overview of why child safety is important priority issue and its burden
  2. A presentation of the successes to date in Europe: progress made on the issue, innovations, good practices in place and government engagement. Followed by a presentation on the challenges to moving forward: what are current opportunities to moving ahead, knowledge, infrastructure and capacity.
  3. Guided discussion will the follow covering the following questions:
  • do participants agree with successes and challenges as outlined?;
  • how can we take advantage of existing resources and opportunities and how can we overcome barriers to progress?;
  • given the current situation and challenges what activities would they propose at a European and national level to support movement in this area?;
  • what role can international organisations like the European Child Safety Alliance, Eurosafe, WHO, EC and others play?

Hide details for Workshop two: Child Safety Action PlansWorkshop two: Child Safety Action Plans

This workshop will focus specifically on the development of child safety action plans and the current Alliance project that has 18 countries under going a process to develop these using standardised tools and processes. The following 3 sections will be contained in this workshop:
  1. An overview of the CSAP initiative including background, overview of process, countries involved and how it fits with EU level policy commitments.
  2. Two country examples of experiences with the process that highlight the situation the country was starting from, their experience in the CSAP project including successes and challenges and an update on where they are at and what they anticipate in terms of outcomes.
  3. A guided discussion addressing the following questions:
  • do participants have questions or comments on the CSAP process, successes and challenges shared by the speakers?;
  • have others faced similar challenges and have they found solutions?
  • how can we take advantage of existing resources and opportunities to overcome barriers to progress in the area of child safety action planning?;
  • given the current situation and challenges what activities would they propose at a European and national level to support movement in this area?;
  • what role can international organisations like the European Child Safety Alliance, Eurosafe, WHO, EC and others play?
