RoSPA's lobbying of government on the subject of having a joined up approach to water safety issues across the full range of government departments that influence it, together with better channels of communication from government to organisations who are involved in delivering water safety work, has finally been recognised. Initially, RoSPA has had the grant for the next three year cycle increased to 90.000 € per year from 28.000 € . Basically RoSPA has been told to get on with implementing the recommendations that have come from the government's internal review. It gives the opportunity to restructure the National Water Safety Committee and other committees or forums that impact on water safety.
RoSPA has been tasked to look at the national structure of forums that co-ordinate water safety education, prevention and rescue within the UK and evaluate whether a revised more connected system would be more efficient and have a better impact on reducing the number of drownings. It has not been fully determined what the other specific work items will be but one could well be the setting up of a web based national water safety information service.
