Injury prevention needs data. In traffic and work place safety it goes without saying that data on the external causes of injuries is indispensable. In the home and leisure area - where more than two thirds of all injuries occur (mainly to most vulnerable groups like children, seniors, handicapped persons)- adequate data collection is still far from routine.
The scope of the current IDB projects includes extending the data collection to include road transport, workplace and violence (i.e. data on “all injuries”) and gaining more information on products and services. The geographical scope includes invoving new Member States in injury surveillance.
