In the future the IDB should also provide access to aggregated data from other injury databases (like ESTAT’s mortality and hospital discharge register, Community Road Accident Database CARE, International Road Traffic Accident Database IRTAD, European Statistics on Accidents at Work ESAW etc.). With these data sources on outcomes and external causes of injuries available in one database, it will be possible to derive indicators of severity, disability, costs and other measures of the burden of injury and feed into the European Health Information System (according to the ECHI lists of health indicators). Also additional information should be provided on the web page.
The EuroSafe Injury Data Programme aims to assist with the development of such a comprehensive injury information system.
