Objectives  print friendly

The objectives of this Task Force are:

  • To work collaboratively with other sectors such as the traffic, welfare, and security sector, in order to advocate the inclusion of vulnerable road users in national policies and health promotion programmes. This also means encouraging stakeholders and special interest groups to articulate their safety needs;
  • Harmonise injury data into the traffic accident reporting systems, fostering research on preventive measures, evaluating and benchmarking the effectiveness of measures taken;
  • To produce a European report on the burden of injury among vulnerable road users;
  • Compile examples of good practice and highlight these in a user-friendly guide book;
  • Construct a decision making model and apply this to strategies related to child pedestrian and two wheelers injury prevention. The most effective public health actions and gaps in the evidence will be selected and future research needs will be identified. The results of this model together with recommendations will be used to implement two specific interventions: the first, on the prevention of child pedestrian injuries, and the second, on the prevention of injuries among two-wheelers. The former intervention will mainly rely on actions for better protection of children as car passengers, whereas the latter will focus on measures to overcome barriers to helmet use. Both will advocate enforcement of existing legislation.
