The EuroSafe Working Group on Risk Assessment was set up in 2005 to provide a knowledge base for others who aim at producing practical methods of risk assessment. Risk assessment for non-food consumer products is an increasingly important tool for risk managers in determining whether regulatory interventions or other measures are required to ensure the safety of products and services to consumers.
At the EuroSafe Risk Assessment Conference held in Edinburgh, 21/22 April 2005, it was recognized that there is a need for more consistent and objective risk assessment. It is therefore important to develop a sound scientific basis for this field. At the close of this conference EuroSafe committed itself to using this conference as a platform for the development of further activities that must encourage more harmonized approaches towards risk assessment and to increase transparency in assessment procedures and consequent decision making processes. On the basis of this, this working group is established by EuroSafe.
