The SMART Home review project, funded by the DTI and carried out in association with the Application Home Initiative (TAHI), has reviewed the state-of-the-art in smart home development in the assistive sector. In particular it was concerned with identifying and reviewing what has already been done and, where possible, visiting current sites in the UK, Europe and the USA. These installations and developments were evaluated for their success and conclusions drawn about their usability, transferability and interoperability in relation to other systems. A Web site is being developed, accessible to all, on which the results of the review will be presented and the various smart home initiatives can be accessed. This has provided a resource that can be maintained within the TAHI programme as more work is completed. http://www.theapplicationhome.com
