The French Consumer Safety issued two recommendations on private swimming pools (ground level pools - 6 October, 1999) and (above ground level and non-covered pools - 18 April, 2000) to prevent drowning risks for young children.

In addition, the CSC issued another recommendation about in-door public swimming pools on 8 January, 1997. These three documents can be read on the CSC net site : http//www.cscnet.org.

In co-operation with other ministers and associations the CSC launched a drowning prevention campaign in the summer of 2000. Thousands of leaflets with this slogan "Piscines et autres points d'eau, une noyade est si vite arrivée" (In swimming pools or any other water-spots, a drowning accident may occur to quickly) and essential advice (including first aid) are widely available for the general public all over the country. In addition, an audio-spot and a song about safety for young children were broadcast on local radio programms.
