Based on data from the Dutch accident surveillance system PORS, other Dutch and foreign accident sources, it was attempted to establish the fact ors relating to the occurrence of do-it-yourself accidents. No conclusions could be drawn as to the causes of these accidents, although it is assumed that, be sides product factors and environmental factors, behavioural factors play an important role. It is recommended that the current preventive activities should be continued, yet an increase of the activities does not seem necessary. S ome specific fields for future attention are indicated: accidents involving do-it-yourself tools (especially hand-operated ones, like stanley knives), vehicles, cutting or piercing objects, and accidents leading to eye or han d injuries.
